We’re planning to begin National Native American Heritage Month on November 1, 2024, by hosting a special Tribal Elders Circle.
Join our Dorothy Ramon Learning Center leader Ernest Siva (Cahuilla/Serrano) and other Elders from 4 to 6 pm at the Center, 127 N. San Gorgonio Ave., Banning.
Ernest Siva, president of Dorothy Ramon Learning Center, at the Dragonfly Gala (Carlos Puma Photo).
California Indian Nations College is organizing the Nov. 1 Elders Circle “to engage our students with as many tribal leaders and Elders as possible,” cultural and student engagement coordinator Faith Morreo said.
The Elders have been invited to an open discussion on how tribal communities, governments, education, cultural history and knowledge have impacted their lives, she said.
You’re invited!
The public is welcome! It’s FREE. Enjoy refreshments and a homemade meal (popovers!). To RSVP and learn more, please email the college.
Here are all events the college is hosting throughout November to celebrate Native American Heritage Month.
Flute Concert on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024
But before we journey further into November, Center vice president June Siva invites all to relax and join us on Sunday, October 27, 2024, for a fun afternoon of flute music.
“Jackie Aronowitz and the Inland Empire Valley Flute Society will present flute trios up to flute choirs of 8 or more,” she says. “You'll hear the high piccolos and low flutes, too. Jackie also tells us about the flutes. There will also be some treats available!”

Dragonfly Language Conference in November
Speak it! Live It! Dream It!
In mid-November, Dorothy Ramon Learning Center invites you to join a gathering of Elders and a new generation of Native language speakers and teachers. Discuss the journeys and challenges of learning and living your language. Join workshops that share fun, useful, and innovative ways you can incorporate Native language into your life. FREE!
Learn more about the Nov. 16, 2024, Dragonfly Language Conference in Palm Desert HERE.
“Never forget your language.”
Why we need our Native languages, told in less than 4 minutes: Ernest Siva’s memories of learning the Serrano language, and how language is essential for a meaningful cultural life, were featured 13 years ago in a California Indian Museum exhibition about the First People. This remains essential today.
